Optimization of asymmetric I-beams for minimum welding shrinkage

Abstract A calculation system has been developed to determine the optimum dimensions of asymmetric I-beams for minimum shrinkage. The objective function is mass; unknowns are I-beam dimensions; constraints stress, local buckling, and deflection. Different steel grades have considered (235, 355, 460 (MPa) yield stress) other aluminum alloys (90, 155, 230 stress). material, span length, loading, applied heat input changed. It shown, that using design; welding shrinkage can be reduced with prebending save material cost as well.
